Permitting:
- E&E Daily reports Democratic leaders are trying to slip controversial permitting provisions developed by Sen. Joe Manchin into the latest version of the fiscal 2023 defense authorization bill, according to three people familiar with the matter.
- Washington Post reports the push by Sen. Joe Manchin to overhaul the nation’s permitting process for infrastructure projects could get some last-ditch help from the House of Representatives, in its annual defense policy measure, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Mining:
- E&E Greenwire reports EPA took a major step toward banning mining at a massive copper and gold deposit in Alaska’s pristine Bristol Bay watershed Thursday, in a move that will ultimately protect one of the world’s premier salmon fisheries.
- Mining.com reports the top boss of a proposed Alaskan mine, which has been through a roller coaster of regulations for the past 15 years, called the recommendation that the US environmental agency should veto the project a “massive regulatory overreach”.

Solar:
- E&E News and Canary Media report that the U.S. Commerce Department proposes resuming tariffs on certain imported, Chinese-made solar components, triggering criticism from industry leaders who say it will endanger planned projects.
